At Women and Social Protection Tanzania, we drive impactful change by combining research, advocacy, and community-driven programs that uplift vulnerable women and girls across Tanzania.
At Women and Social Protection Tanzania, we champion inclusive and sustainable development by designing and applying evidence-based solutions that prioritize the needs of vulnerable and poor women and girls. Our work focuses on advancing gender equality, enhancing social protection systems, and promoting women’s economic empowerment across Tanzania and beyond.
WSP Tanzania is committed to building the knowledge, skills, and institutional capacities of researchers, policymakers, and practitioners to ensure that social protection systems are inclusive, gender-sensitive, and evidence-based. Through targeted training, technical assistance, and knowledge-sharing platforms, we support stakeholders to better understand and address the complex realities facing women, youth, and marginalized communities in Tanzania.
We advocate for and support the development of social protection systems that recognize and respond to gender-specific vulnerabilities and inequalities. Our work involves collaborating with government agencies and development partners to design and implement programs—such as cash transfers, health insurance, maternity benefits, and care economy initiatives—that empower women economically and socially while promoting equity and resilience.
WSP Tanzania empowers youth and engages men to promote shared responsibility for unpaid care work, addressing gender norms and economic inequality. Through adapted models like Bandebereho and TREE, and guided by the “3Rs” (Recognize, Reduce, Redistribute), WSP drives social norm change and policy advocacy. The 2024 UCW study highlights women’s disproportionate care burden, but emerging shifts—like increased involvement of boys—signal progress toward more equitable care roles.
WSP offers integrated support across all stages of the policy and program cycle. This includes conducting rigorous research to inform policy, designing inclusive program models, delivering training for implementers, and developing systems for effective monitoring, assessment, and evaluation. Our holistic approach ensures that social protection interventions are grounded in local realities and deliver measurable, sustainable impact.
WSP Tanzania actively engages with government institutions, development partners, civil society organizations, and community-based groups to foster collaboration and influence policy agendas. By creating platforms for dialogue, joint action, and shared learning, we aim to strengthen the national social protection landscape and ensure that the voices and needs of women and vulnerable populations are heard and addressed in decision-making processes.
At Women and Social Protection Tanzania (WSP), we are a dynamic non-profit organization committed to advancing gender equality, social protection, and women’s economic empowerment across Tanzania.
Founded in 2016 and officially registered as an NGO in 2019, WSP combines research, advocacy, and direct interventions to improve the lives of vulnerable and marginalized women and girls.
